Do’s and don’ts of drying your waves

Drying your hair correctly is just as crucial as washing it. To help you achieve healthy, frizz-free waves, here are some essential do's and don'ts for the drying process…

Do

1. Use a microfibre towel

Microfibre towels are made from a softer, smoother material which helps to reduce frizz and breakage. Unlike traditional cotton towels, which can be rough, microfibre towels absorb moisture without pulling on the strands or causing tangling.

2. Use a diffuser on low speed and low heat

This allows the airflow to gently spread across your wave without disrupting the wave pattern. High heat can cause significant damage to your hair, leading to dryness and making the strands more prone to breakage.

3. Plop your hair

Make sure to get rid of excess water as this can weigh down your waves, making it harder for them to hold their shape. Not sure what plopping is, here’s a tutorial…

Don't

1. Rub your hair with a cotton towel

When you rub your hair with a cotton towel, the textured fibres of the towel can catch on your hair strands which creates friction. This can disrupt the hair cuticle. As the cuticle becomes damaged, it can lead to frizz, and can cause hair strands to snag and break.

2. Brush whilst drying

Brushing dry hair will disrupt the wave pattern and cause frizz. Instead, detangle your hair whilst it’s saturated in conditioner and soaking wet. It should feel like seaweed. You want the brush to glide through your waves.

3. Let your hair dry overnight

Hair is weaker when wet because the cuticle becomes raised, making it more vulnerable to damage. This means that strands are more likely to snap or break when wet hair rubs against a pillow.
