5 tips from our Leeds Wavy Hair Masterclass

Last week, we hosted our second Wavy Hair Masterclass in Leeds. It was an unforgettable evening!

Wavy hair specialist Emma Kenyon joined us to share expert advice.

It was amazing to see so many of you coming together to learn, share and embrace your waves.

From essential techniques to game-changing tips, the night was packed with valuable insights.

Here are our top 5 takeaways...

1. Alternate conditioner with deep treatments for damaged hair

For bleached or coloured hair, swap your regular conditioner for a plex treatment or deep conditioning mask.

If you wash more than once a week, use this every other wash, alternating with your conditioner.

The plex treatment will restore damaged hair by penetrating deep into your hair structure to rebuild broken bonds damaged by chemicals, heat and the environment.

2. Diffuse with patience

Place your hair in the diffuser bowl and let it sit, no moving it around or bouncing it up and down.

A common mistake is over-manoeuvring. Be patient.

Too much movement or touching creates frizz and disrupts your waves before they set.

Once your products are in and your hair is clumped into s-shaped waves, avoid scrunching while diffusing.

This only breaks up definition.

3. Finger coil stubborn strands for definition

If your front pieces aren’t behaving, try finger coiling.

Wrap small sections around your finger to encourage shape.

The top layer of your hair (the canopy) takes the most damage from sun, heat and brushing.

So repair that section takes time.

If scrunching isn’t working, finger coiling can help.

Do this on wet hair and diffuse immediately to lock in the wave before it falls out.

4. Tackling day 3 frizz with a refresh

Frizz is normal. We have textured hair!

The key is refreshing daily if needed.

Use more water than you think and section your hair to target frizzy areas.

Our Refresh Spray is quick and easy for refreshing but you can add extra gel for hold if necessary.

How you sleep matters! Try putting your hair up like a pineapple.

Use a satin or silk pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent frizz.

In the morning, your hair may look wild once you take it out of the pineapple but don’t worry.

Let it settle for 10–15 minutes then mist with water, apply refresh spray, scrunch and diffuse to reactivate the wave definition.

5. The secret to long-lasting waves

Think of a cast like a protective shell.

Just like a cast on a broken arm. It locks in definition, helping your waves last longer.

Once your hair is fully dry, shake your roots for volume or scrunch with a little oil to soften the cast.

Everything loosens up once scrunched!

Worried you’ve used too much product? Don’t be, just wait until it’s dry and then scrunch it out.

No cast? That’s okay! You can add more product when refreshing the next day.

If you air dry, movement can prevent a cast from forming.

The key is gel, it creates the cast. But if you prefer a softer look, skipping gel is totally fine!
