“I wish I’d known that I had a wave”

Alexandria didn’t always question her hair.

Alexandria didn’t always question her hair. Growing up, it was simple. Short, easy, and in a bob.

It wasn’t until her teenage years, when she started growing it out, that things began to change. That’s when the texture started to show.

The first signs of something different

Around the age of 14, Alexandria noticed her hair wasn’t behaving like everyone else’s.

It had movement. Kinks. A shape that wouldn’t sit completely flat.

At first, she tried to work with it using what she had, sea salt spray, a diffuser, and a bit of trial and error.

But like most teenagers, the pressure to fit in was still there. Straight hair was the standard, so she went with that.

“Through school I straightened it loads… It was the fashion back in the day”.

Straightening became part of her routine throughout school. But it never quite held.

Rain, wind, or even just a long day would bring the texture back through, especially around the roots.

“If you went to school, you’d straighten your hair, and girls would point out the kinks in the back!"

Not straight, not curly… something in between

It wasn’t achievable for her to have straight hair every day, so Alexandria started wearing it more natural.

“I do like to experiment. Having a bouncy blow-dry wasn’t a thing when I was younger. It was either straight or curly. But I liked having the best of both worlds. One day I’d go in, and it would be straight, and the next day it would be naturally curly or wavy.”

When did you realise your hair was secretly wavy?

“It hasn't been up until the last couple of years that I started to get layers cut in. Then my hair started coming in quite curly through the roots. When I got a fringe cut in, that’s when I really realised it was wavy because I couldn’t even tame it with a hairdryer!”

“That was when I realised I definitely had a natural wave to my hair.”

How was your first time using the Wavy Hair Kit?

“The shampoo and conditioner made me feel like my hair was really super clean. So I thought my hair might not go into a wave… I always think the curls come out better when your hair is slightly dirty.”

“But I was surprised because when I used step three.. My hair still felt silky smooth. Then I went in with the foam, and I thought my hair was never going to dry because my hair holds onto moisture so much.”

“But then, as I was drying my hair and running my fingers through it, I was really surprised because it wasn't knotty! My hair felt really lightweight still; it didn’t feel heavy or crunchy.”

“With previous products I’ve used, my hair is still frizzy. But this wasn’t frizzy, it just felt like I had defined waves that I hadn’t put in loads of effort to achieve.”

One word before Merwave, one word now

Before: Unmanageable

Now: Natural

Alexandria’s advice to you…

“Embrace [your] natural waves, but also do the wet hair trick. If you have a natural wave when your hair is wet, then you have wavy hair. Just start off with scrunching your hair, then using products that are for wavy hair.”

5 signs your hair is secretly wavy…

Sign 1: Hair's wavy when wet, but dries straight

Hair shows natural waves when wet. Drying disrupts the pattern - leaving puffiness instead of soft, defined waves.

Sign 2: Heat styling never lasts

You curl it, it drops. You straighten it, it bends - your natural wave won’t hold either.

Sign 3: Your ‘frizz’ feels uncontrollable

Not random frizz - your wave pattern separating, not clumping. That’s why smoothing products never really fix it.

Sign 4: Your hair never looks ‘finished’

You wash and dry… but it lacks shape or polish. Never sleek, never defined, always needing more.

Sign 5: Your ends puff or flick out

Flatter at the roots, uneven through the lengths. Ends flick, curl, or puff depending on humidity.

You don't have frizz. You have waves.

Straightening, brushing and everyday drying break apart your natural wave pattern.
So instead of waves... you see frizz.

The fix? A simple 15-minute routine using lightweight products designed for waves.
The Merwave Wavy Hair Kit works with your natural pattern, transforming frizz into soft, defined, beach waves.
