My Hair Is Falling Out - What Shall I Do?

Before we start, let’s point one thing out. On average, we lose between 50-100 hair strands daily (according to the American Academy of Dermatology). If your hair is longer, that figure could be higher.


For the purposes of this article, we’re going to reveal some reasons why you’re experiencing hair loss and what you can do to minimise it from happening.


I do want to be clear however, if you’re losing large clumps of hair it is advised to consult a medical professional, as there could be other issues.

is your nutrition right?

Your nutrition will have a huge impact on your wavy hair.


Certain vitamin deficiencies will cause your hair to weaken and fall out. Your hair (just like your muscles) also require protein to grow. So a lack of high quality protein foods such as meats, eggs and fish can result in your hair become weak.


Hair products that contain protein (Merwave Feed Treatment) will also strengthen your hair strands and help avoid breakages. Other deficiencies such as a lack of iron can also cause additional hair loss.


In order to find out what is happening and what needs tweaking, you should consider visiting a nutritionist who can carry out the right investigations to determine what is lacking. They will help to identify the issue and then provide a solution that can help to tackle your hair loss.

Some hairstyles might look great, but those such as extensions, weaves and braids are styles that can result in traction alopecia.


So, while we are not saying to avoid these styles, you should consider how long you leave them in for as too long will lead to problems.

If you didn’t know, a trichologist is someone who studies hair and scalp problems.


So, if you are suffering from hair loss then it could be worth paying them a visit. You can talk through the problems, explain the things you do with your hair and the treatments you use. They will then be able to provide assistance with any potential underlying issues that lead to thinning hair and baldness, helping to find a potential solution.

GO NATURAL

It’s really important to care for the hair that you have.

If you’re using bleach products this can speed up hair loss due to the harsh ingredients involved. Bleach removes your hairs moisture, which results in more brittle, weaker hair strands.

Like we said, on average your hair will shred or break 100 hairs a day. If you’re brushing your hair multiple times a day then you will see these fall out. Yet won't really be alarmed. 


However, if you’re only brushing your hair once a week (on hair wash day) then that’s 7 days of hair ready to come out in one go. So don’t get a shock, it’s normal!

take your time when styling

Your hair styling products won’t cause hair loss. However, heat styling tools (which we don’t recommend) will cause damage to your hair and can accelerate the problem. 


When it comes to styling, there are things that you can do to ensure that you take care of your hair. Using products that are lightweight and free of harmful ingredients will ease the pressure placed on the hair which will help to reduce the likelihood of hair loss.
