For most of her life, Michelle thought her hair was straight.
Not perfectly straight, but close enough to treat it that way.
It had a kink. It never sat quite like her friends’ hair. But she didn’t question it. She just worked around it.
Michelle had long hair growing up, but it never behaved the way she wanted. It wasn’t poker straight. It had shape. Movement. A slight flick that wouldn’t sit flat.
So she did what everyone else did at the time.
She straightened it.
Like many of her friends, straight hair was the goal, even if it meant going to extremes to get there.
“I even had friends who had straight hair putting it on an ironing board to make sure it was poker straight before we went out!”
The biggest challenge wasn’t styling her hair.
It was keeping it styled.
She could straighten it, but it wouldn’t last.
A bit of rain? Back to how it was before.
Humidity? Bigger.
Heat? Bigger again.
Curling, however, did give her lasting waves. And that was a clue that her hair was secretly wavy; it just took her a little while longer to get to that conclusion.
Looking back, Michelle can see it clearly.
Her hair was never straight.
It had volume through the length. It pushed out at the sides. It reacted to the weather in ways straight hair simply doesn’t.
“Also, the frizziness. To get it straight, I needed to straighten it.”
Your hair is wavy, Michelle
Like many women, Michelle grew up with two options: straight or curly, and hair that didn’t fit either.
So she assumed it was just something she had to manage.
But once she saw Merwave and saw Abi’s hair, something clicked into place.
“Although my hair isn’t as wavy as Abi’s, it’s a different colour, and a different texture, I thought, actually, could I have wavy hair?”
When Michelle tried Merwave for the first time, she followed the routine step by step.
“The first time I did the 5-step kit, I followed the instructions, and straight away my hair went wavy. It was really easy to use. I wasn’t used to using other products after the shower, so I started off using the protein, and then the cast foam, and then the gel.”
“The scrunching out the crunch took a bit of getting used to, but it was super simple. And I found that I didn’t always need to use a hairdryer or diffuser, I could just leave it to dry naturally. I liked the fact that when it was raining, I could go out, and that would just enhance the waves.”
So how does it feel to embrace your waves?
“So much easier. My hair routine in the morning doesn’t take anywhere near as long as it used to take. It’s much easier to do a refresh, and I don’t need to wash it every day.”
“The Refresh Spray gives me the same effect as freshly washing my hair, which I love for ease, as I have a busy life. It all just fits into my routine really easily.”
Before: Kinky
Now: Wavy
Michelle’s advice to you…
“Give it a try. Chances are, you’ve got wavy hair as well.”
Sign 1: Hair's wavy when wet, but dries straight
Hair shows natural waves when wet. Drying disrupts the pattern - leaving puffiness instead of soft, defined waves.
Sign 2: Heat styling never lasts
You curl it, it drops. You straighten it, it bends - your natural wave won’t hold either.
Sign 3: Your ‘frizz’ feels uncontrollable
Not random frizz - your wave pattern separating, not clumping. That’s why smoothing products never really fix it.
Sign 4: Your hair never looks ‘finished’
You wash and dry… but it lacks shape or polish. Never sleek, never defined, always needing more.
Sign 5: Your ends puff or flick out
Flatter at the roots, uneven through the lengths. Ends flick, curl, or puff depending on humidity.
Straightening, brushing and everyday drying break apart your natural wave pattern.
So instead of waves... you see frizz.
The fix? A simple 15-minute routine using lightweight products designed for waves.
The Merwave Wavy Hair Kit works with your natural pattern, transforming frizz into soft, defined, beach waves.
