Jen’s hair has always had character.
Jen’s hair has always had character. As a child, it was full of ringlets. Thick, heavy, and hard to manage.
“Mum was useless at doing it.”
So it was long, one length, and often just left to do its own thing.
As she grew up, things changed.
Her hair started to look straighter. Less obviously curly. More manageable, at least on the surface.
So she didn’t question it. It was just thick hair.
But even then, something didn’t quite click with her own.
She used perms for years, and noticed something unusual.
They didn’t drop. “I used to wonder why mine lasted 5 years.” That was a big clue which, at the time, didn’t mean much.
Her routine wasn’t about constantly straightening, but it was still built around heat.
Blow dries. Waves. Adding shape manually.
Because without it, her hair would fall back into frizz.
The holiday version of her
Like so many wavies, Jen saw the truth on holiday.
Sea air. Salt water. No effort.
And suddenly, her hair looked exactly how she wanted it to.
“It was always beautiful.”
What did she think?
“With Merwave, the shampoo is lighter. The conditioner is amazing; it just detangles straight away. The protein was good and I think that’s underused. Then the mousse and the protect, everything just gels together.”
What would she say to people who are sceptical about the process?
“Invest in that day. If I’ve invested this morning in my one to five, this is going to last me for a week.”
“In the past, I was going through my hair everyday with the heated element to put a kink in it. So I was spending less time but doing it more often.”
Before: Frizzy
Now: Gorgeous
Jen’s advice to you…
“Get your hair wet, scrunch, and see what formation comes through. It will be more of an S-bend for a wave. But there’s never two people the same. You can have a different combination. Just look at the full picture.”
Sign 1: Hair's wavy when wet, but dries straight
Hair shows natural waves when wet. Drying disrupts the pattern - leaving puffiness instead of soft, defined waves.
Sign 2: Heat styling never lasts
You curl it, it drops. You straighten it, it bends - your natural wave won’t hold either.
Sign 3: Your ‘frizz’ feels uncontrollable
Not random frizz - your wave pattern separating, not clumping. That’s why smoothing products never really fix it.
Sign 4: Your hair never looks ‘finished’
You wash and dry… but it lacks shape or polish. Never sleek, never defined, always needing more.
Sign 5: Your ends puff or flick out
Flatter at the roots, uneven through the lengths. Ends flick, curl, or puff depending on humidity.
Straightening, brushing and everyday drying break apart your natural wave pattern.
So instead of waves... you see frizz.
The fix? A simple 15-minute routine using lightweight products designed for waves.
The Merwave Wavy Hair Kit works with your natural pattern, transforming frizz into soft, defined, beach waves.
