How to reduce frizz around your crown

Frizz around the crown of your head, often referred to as "halo frizz", can be a frustrating issue for those with wavy hair.

However, with the right techniques and products, you can effectively tame the halo and achieve beautiful waves.

Read on to explore various strategies to reduce halo frizz and maintain gorgeous, frizz-free hair.

Understanding the cause of halo frizz

Before diving into solutions, it's essential to understand what causes halo frizz in the first place.

Factors such as humidity, dryness, friction from clothing or bedding, and improper hair care routines can all contribute to frizz around the crown of your head.

Additionally, hair texture and porosity play a role in how prone your hair is to frizz.

8 tips to reduce halo frizz

1. Hydrate your hair

Proper hydration is crucial for combating frizz.

Use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for your hair type to keep your locks hydrated and nourished.

2. Deep conditioning treatments

Incorporate regular deep conditioning treatments into your hair care routine to provide extra moisture and strengthen your hair.

Look for products containing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, or argan oil to help tame frizz and add shine.

3. Avoid overwashing

Washing your hair too frequently can strip it of its natural oils, leading to dryness and increased frizz.

Aim to wash your hair no more than 2-3 times per week and use a sulphate-free shampoo to prevent stripping the hair of its natural oils.

4. Use a microfibre towel

Traditional towels can rough up the hair cuticle and contribute to frizz.

Instead, opt for a microfibre towel to gently blot excess water from your hair without causing friction.

5. Apply products while hair is wet

After washing your hair, apply styling products like a leave-in conditioner, wave cream or anti-frizz serum while your hair is still wet.

This helps seal in moisture and smooth the hair cuticle, reducing frizz as your hair dries.

6. Avoid damaging styling

Years of using heat tools on your hair often focus damage on the top layer, especially with T-bar highlights, causing outer section damage.

While tips and products help, they can't fully repair heat or colour damage.

Gradually growing out and trimming damaged hair is essential for achieving truly healthy hair.

7. Protect your hair while sleeping

Invest in a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent frizz while you sleep.

You can also protect your hair by wearing a silk or satin bonnet or using a pineapple or loose bun hairstyle to keep your hair out of the way.

8. Regular Trims

Split ends and damaged hair are more prone to frizz, so schedule regular trims to keep your hair healthy and prevent frizz from worsening.
