Question 1

"How do I get more definition at the back of my head?" - Lia

My Answer

If the back of your hair is flatter than the rest, it’s completely normal.

Many people find that different sections of their hair react differently to styling. This could be due to past damage, how your hair naturally grows, or even how you sleep.


Here are my top tips:


1. Apply product more evenly

Often, we focus on the front and sides, but make sure you apply your wave products to the back too.

Try flipping your head upside down or tilting your head to the side to reach the back properly.


2. Finger coil or scrunch more at the back

If the back doesn’t wave up as well, give it extra scrunching or finger-coil sections while wet to help it form more shape.


3. Diffuse upside down or in sections

If air-drying, the back can dry flatter because of gravity. Try diffusing in sections or flipping your head over to add more lift.


4. Be patient: hair needs time to repair

If the back has been heat-damaged, over-brushed, or flattened from sleeping, it might time to regain its natural shape.

My Answer

Keeping your waves looking good after a sweaty gym session is all about how you tie it up, let it down and refresh it.


1. Tie it up (but gently!)

Use a loose claw clip, silk scrunchie or a high pineapple to keep hair off your face without creating dents or disrupting your waves.

Avoid tight elastics that can cause creases or breakage.


2. Let it out immediately after your workout

As soon as you're done, take your hair down to stop sweat from drying in and making waves go flat or frizzy.

Give it a shake to help waves fall back into place naturally.


3. Let it dry and see what it looks like

Before rushing to restyle, let your hair air dry for a bit.

Sometimes waves will bounce back on their own once the sweat evaporates.


4. Refresh with Merwave’s Spray
